Celebrities hack. The same person?

Until just a few minutes ago, singer Lana Del Rey hadn’t tweeted since April 4. That all changed when, in rapid succession, a series of controversial and racist statements appeared on her feed. Luckily, almost as quickly as they appeared, the tweets were taken down.

One of the tweets contained the word (it’s debatable to call it a word, of course) “Sw4ylol,” which also appeared in one of the messages sent from Katy Perry’s account when it was hacked on May 30. Those tweets also referenced Taylor Swift, whose account had previously been hacked in 2015.
The hackers behind Del Rey’s messages—who, like all of the hackers involved in this saga, have yet to be identified—also show similarities to the ones responsible for Kylie Jenner’s Monday account hacking. During that session, hackers breached Jenner’s account and tagged both Swift and Perry in tweets. They also mentioned Justin Bieber in a lewd message, along with suggesting the existence of a sex tape with Jenner and Tyga. Jenner posted a Snapchat video during the hack in which she told fans that she was “just letting [the hackers] have fun.” She did say that no one would ever see a sex tape of any sort, though.
The hacker offered up his own Twitter handle, @lolsw4y, which Metro UK suggests is the same person responsible for the Perry hack. The fact that the Del Rey tweets contained “Sw4ylol” suggests that @lolsw4y could also be behind this security breech.
All of the offensive tweets have since been removed from Perry, Jenner, and Del Rey’s accounts.
